A pre-congress course on opensource software slicer and its application to IGT will take place on August 25, 2009. The purpose of this tutorial is to provide the members of the research community with a practical experience of the image processing, 3D visualization, and Image-Guided Therapy capabilities of the Open Source 3D Slicer software platform. Attendance is limited.

Captain Melissa Kaime, Director of the US Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, will give a keynote lecture at the congress. Her many professional honors and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal; the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Captain Kaime is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

ABC News anchorman and Founder of Remind Foundation, Bob Woodruff, will receive the 2009 IBMISPS Beacon Award at this years annual congress. In addition to receiving the award, Mr Woodruff will give a keynote lecture to the congress delegates.
Jim Cloar, Vice President & General Manager of Medtronic Navigation, joins the invited speakers giving keynote lectures at this years Congress. William A. Hawkins, Chairman and CEO of Medtronic, will be awarded the IBMISPS Pioneer in Technology Development Crystal Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer and Development at the congress.

The 2009 IBMISPS Pioneer in Medicine Awards will be awarded at the congress to Peter Mclaren Black, M.D., Ph.D for excellence in research, discovery and education, and pioneering work in the field of image guided surgery and to Keith Black MD for excellence in research, discovery and education, and pioneering work on selective opening of blood brain barrier and immunotherapy of brain cancers.
